Courageous Engagement:
Forging New Relationships
Exploring ways to build bridges and relationships with aboriginal brothers and sisters in community
University of Winnipeg

What does it mean to build bridges in the variety of communities we serve and live in?
How do we address and deal with the resistance that we know exists in our communities so we can forge new relationships?

Deepening our understanding of Aboriginal and First Nation cultural understandings through:
 Storytelling, history, & facts
 Experiencing respectful encounters of culture

DUCC Pins! Minimize

After much effort by Sharilynn Upsdell, and consultation with the diaconal community, the pins are a reality!  We are very grateful to Sharilynn for her vision, her artisitic sensibility, and her leadership throughout the process.

Sharilynn writes:
"The development of a new pin has been an exciting and multi-consultative process. At the 2009 meeting I was asked to guide the process of enlisting an artist to assist us in combining meaningful symbols and images to become the official DUCC pin logo. After showing some designs at that meeting, Joyce Cosby was the artist hired, due to her reputation for designing other outstanding logos within and beyond the United Church. While at the meeting we toured Robert Hall Pewter Originals in St. George. We were impressed by the quality of  Robert's work, the care in choice of non-toxic materials, fair employment practices, and wholly Canadian production. Pending pricing (which was reviewed by the treasurer and the Coordinating cluster), Robert was chosen  as pewter artist for the production stage. It is Robert who will hand carve the original mould and work with local employees to cast and polish the final product.

"The pin will have both a brooch-type clasp AND a loop incorporated into the back for use as a pendant.  Be sure to pick up your pin at the meeting.  Thank you to so many who offered ongoing feedback, suggestions, drawings, explanation of meanings, etc.  Together we can be proud of a new pin/pendant that will be striking in design and rich in meaning."
