Commissioning

Commissioned in 1997 at Kenora, Ontario

Program of Formation

I have a Diploma from the Centre for Christian Studies. I was in the residential program in Toronto from September
1992 – May 1997. I had field placements at Parkwoods United Church in Don Mills and the Christian Resource Centre in Toronto. I also did a summer internship in Winchester, Ontario. Prior to taking courses at CCS, it did two units of Clinical Pastoral Education in Winnipeg.

What called you to diaconal ministry?

My first interest was pastoral care. At first, my intention was to be a hospital chaplain.  I was not interested in preaching or
administering the Sacraments.

Describe some of your experiences of ministry.

I have been mainly involved in congregational ministry.  I do a lot of
pastoral care, especially with the elderly. I spend a lot of time preparing to lead weekly worship services.  I served in the Circle
Marsh Pastoral Charge in Manitoba, First Church United, which later amalgamated with Wesley United Church in Thunder Bay, and currently serve in the Dalhousie-New Mills Pastoral Charge in Dalhousie, New
Brunswick. When I was in Thunder Bay, I was in team ministry, and did some youth work. I have served as Chair of Miramichi Presbytery and am currently Chair of the Justice, Mission and Outreach Committee of the Fundy-St. Lawrence-Dawning Waters Regional Council.

How I explain Diaconal Ministry to others…..

We have been trained in pastoral care, Christian education and social service.  Social justice is a major focus of our ministry. Part of our ministry involves empowering lay people and sharing ministry with lay people. We are Order of Ministry personnel. We are part of a global
diaconal group.

What gives you the most satisfaction, reward, sense of fulfillment from the ministry you do?

Pastoral care and social justice work give me the most satisfaction.
