Towards 2035 – Diaconal Involvement

Responding to DUCCs approach to GCO Staff about the contribution DUCC may make to the church’s discernment of its ministry in the Toward 2035 process, Tracy and Eric met with Andrew Richardson (Director Emerging Ministry Leadership), Cameron Fraser (Director of Growth and Ministry Development), and Adam Hanley (Director Established Ministry Leadership, Office of Vocation). Jennifer Janzen Ball and Jennifer Henry were not available.

The three GCO staff affirmed that DUCC and Diaconal Ministry Training, as delivered by the Centre for Christian Studies, lean towards the type of leadership much needed by the UCC in our current context. We all agreed that Diaconal Ministers have the opportunity to participate in their communities of faith and often in their region in the Towards 2035 process and resources. It was agreed that collectively it would be helpful to have DUCC participate in focused conversation in at least the two of the areas represented in this conversation.

A place for DUCC folks who have engaged with their local communities in conversations about Toward 2035 whether using the denominational created materials or not, what have you noticed, what might we learn from your observations. What do DUCC folks know about engaging in collective conversations that might be helpful to the broader church as this proceeds.
